Joseph G. Butler, Jr. based The Butler Institute of American Art in 1919. The Butler was integrated and chartered by the State of Ohio. It is the primary structure built to house a collection of strictly American works. The Asheville Art Museum’s imaginative and prescient is to remodel lives via art.
